Agenda | July 2018
✽ JULY 2018 Hello Dreamers! Please note that the Ships in the Night event has been moved to this month due to extenuating RL circumstances in June. Therefore, the Narrakra ship has not returned to Aifaran as of June 22, but will be returning on July 10 instead. In light of this, and in apology for the minimal notice we were able to give to our players regarding the change, we have expanded the event's scope to include a metaplot-relevant log that will be posted on the 10th. • CITY DEVELOPMENTS • The weather has gotten unseasonably hot and humid, relieved only by the sea breeze in the afternoons. It’s not uncommon to see children playing in the streets with water balloons, and passersby who don’t want to get hit dodging to the side. (Still - most of them wouldn’t be too unhappy about cooling off just a little.) The Dreamfolk getting strange visions has been noticed across the Lae network and has several Aifaran residents gossiping - rumours abound, ranging from the feasible to the absurd. The most prominent, however, is that they saw the fate of the crew members aboard the Narrakra. Many Dreamfolk may be accosted by relatives or friends of the crew, demanding more answers than they may be willing or able to give. There is a cloud of dread that hangs over the city, despite the hot, sunny weather. The more superstitious have taken to giving Dreamfolk a wide berth or outright avoiding them altogether, uttering things about bad omens, or insinuating that they may even have something to do with the goings-on. • JOB OPENINGS • Aifaran's economy has strong pillars in both monetary and barter systems for work, and as such there are always a wealth of opportunities for temporary work both inside the city and in other locations around the archipelago. While these positions are not strictly geared toward Dreamfolk, and anyone can take them up regardless of whether they already have steady employment elsewhere or not, new Dreamfolk in particular find them helpful to help get their feet under them. Some of this month's temporary work positions are: REPAIRS - In weather this hot, climate control is a must - and sometimes the air conditioning breaks down. Anyone with sufficient mechanical skill to repair air conditioning or fans on demand would be rewarded well. HEAT DEFEATERS - Certain of the races handle the summer heat better than others. Among those having most trouble are the Bresilykians, the Kin'nal, and the Erol'a. While the latter deal with this by leaving the water even less than usual, the Bresilykians and Kin'nal have some significant trouble, especially the very old and very young. Therefore, small groups of people often band together to carry water and run other assorted errands for their friends and neighbors (and paying customers) of these races, minimizing the time they need to spend in the direct heat and ensuring a less miserable summer. MIDDLEMAN - The heat is definitely the reason some people require couriers. Really. It's just that with the uptick in heat-related problems, there are also those using it as a cover for easy hiring of people to carry messages and packages more or less untraceably. Such contracts can pay well, but can also bring more trouble with them than they're worth. • UPCOMING EVENTS • ✽ SHIPS IN THE NIGHT - EVENT CONCLUSION { July 10 } The days preceding the Narrakra return are marked with a substantial amount of dead fish washing up on the shore - so much so that many beaches close their gates until the source of the problem is either discovered or dealt with. The heat carries the repulsive stench quit a ways inland, and the humidity means thick clouds of fog in the mornings and evenings. Even during the day, there’s an eerie haze that hangs around the shoreline, making visibility poor. Finally on the 10th, the Narrakra returns to port looking the worse for wear amidst a hubbub of rumour and speculation. Dreamfolk may not be the center of the buzz but all eyes are not entirely off them either. Something terrible has happened, and fear and suspicion has gripped the residents of Aifaran. Note: This event will have a mod-posted log available for threading. ✽ FOURTH WALL { July 16-31 } Every so often, the barrier between Life and Dreaming thins. It’s a well-known phenomenon, it usually doesn’t happen in Aifaran proper. Sometimes, large groups of Dreamfolk are Shunted in, and then disappear just as abruptly. Whenever it does happen, though, it’s met with an impromptu festival - it's seen as an auspicious happening, a sign that the Dreaming is healthy, and that the other worlds from which the Dreamfolk hail are equally so. While the previous weeks' happenings with regards to the reappearance of the lost ship haven't been forgotten, the Shunting event does help. Khu Ioduan’s very first FOURTH WALL event is here! It will be live from July 16-31, and every account added will have access extended for a week after the end of the event in order to finish up any ongoing threads. Please note that this is a “live” fourth wall - meaning that the characters in-game will remember the event after it has concluded. Interested in bringing someone in? Comment with the provided form here and your account will be given access to the comms when the event goes live. If you have any questions regarding the 4th wall, please ask them in the Questions comment below. Note: This event will have a mod-posted log available for threading. • AFFINITY RANKS • Remember to check out your character's AFFINITY RANK for the various areas of repute within the city! This month's Affinity Activities can be found LOCATED HERE. • OOC INFO & MOD NOTES • Info Outreach Since our game primarily take place on dreamwidth, the OOC community is the most reliable place to look for updates. In deference to those players who prefer not to take on additional social media, please remember to watch and make use of the OOC community. Modteam communications will always be made to the OOC community, and while we try to keep the game plurk/game discord up to date, these are not considered primary game communication channels and should not be relied on solely. Player Plots For players who are interested in pursuing loose threads or running their own plots, we have a place to request Player Plots. We just updated the navigation so it’s easier to find, and it’s a great way to delve deeper into the things that interest you. |
