Agenda | November 2018
✽ NOVEMBER 2018 Hello Dreamers! A new month is here, and we're bringing you some seasonal curiosities and criminal rumblings. • CITY DEVELOPMENTS • Following the successful Shadow Nights festival, much of the wariness in Aifaran has ebbed away and most citizens return to the comfort of their routines. Eyes continue to glance upward from time to time, and footsteps are hurried through alleyways and after sunset, as fear of the Night Fisher still lurks in the dark places of the city. People want to put the incident behind them, but history reminds them to be prepared for the Dreaming to interfere at any moment. Given the archipelago's tropical climate, fall never truly becomes cold. Temperatures drop only a few degrees, with scattered rain showers and wind for a few days at a time allowing for light layering, but by and large the city remains warm enough to be comfortable. Only areas outside the city at elevation will grow chilly and damp, and it is common to see fog and clouds lingering over mountains in the distance. • JOB OPENINGS • Aifaran's economy has strong pillars in both monetary and barter systems for work, and as such there are always a wealth of opportunities for temporary work both inside the city and in other locations around the archipelago. While these positions are not strictly geared toward Dreamfolk, and anyone can take them up regardless of whether they already have steady employment elsewhere or not, new Dreamfolk in particular find them helpful to help get their feet under them. Some of this month's temporary work positions are: STREET SWEEP - After the Shadow Nights Festival, there's quite a bit of cleanup to do. Merchants take care of their own inventory for the most part, though a few will take on additional help for moving large items. The city is hiring workers to collect and carefully pack away spirit lanterns, sweep up trash, and so on. It's a bit tedious, but fortunately the worst task is only cleaning up smashed gourds. INVENTORY DRUDGE - Anyone who's worked retail in their own world probably knows this pain, but inventory in Ioduese shops still needs to be done, and several shopkeepers are offering a fair day's wage and a selection of (only slightly expired) goods for volunteers to help with the counting and sorting of wares. It's tedious and probably boring, but at least it's inside while the weather's getting progressively wetter. If your stipend from the Dreaming Bridge has run out already, maybe it's not a bad idea? WORDSMITH - A local publication is expanding and calling for contributors! Writers can submit short articles on a selected number of topics and be paid per piece. The twist? It's a cryptid magazine. They take the dark mysteries and bring them out into the light, with a necessary dash of humor and wit. It won't pay the rent, but it could be a fun way to supplement existing income. • UPCOMING EVENTS • ✽ HEMISPHERES AND HARVESTS { Throughout November } Although Aifaran remains green year-round, there is one park that curiously and stubbornly tries to stick to temperate seasonality: if you're missing the brilliant colors of autumn, this is the place to go. Seitura Park is near the northwestern edge of the city and home to a modest arboretum that preserves trees from the northern hemisphere of Konryu. Each are labeled with their species and common name. Most of the trees turn bright red and orange and yellow for a few months before returning to green - but one or two actually shift to a dark purple. Just enough leaves fall to give enthusiasts piles to jump into. No one knows why this happens, not even the park managers. It's rumored that the arborists who tend the trees pass an ancient secret down generations, but they'll laugh it off if asked. The mystery deepens: on the opposite side of the city, the Wiosen Botanical Gardens begin to bloom like they are rooted in the soil of the southern hemisphere. The annual displays of color draw people all month long, and it's recommended to visit in the early morning or middle of the day when it's less busy. Even the rain won't keep visitors away from this riot of color and fragrance. Note: This event will not have a mod-posted log available for threading. ✽ THE JOY OF PIRACY AND THE ZEST OF SMUGGLING { November 10 - 25 } On the morning of the 10th, the Shuyul Bay is busy with Sentry ships and increased patrols sweep through the port, inspecting warehouses and shipments as owners allow. In the evening, the Sentry chief releases a statement in coordination with the Alliance legislature regarding the crackdown: there will be increased penalties for anyone found in possession of Chihuelan goods that have no official records of provenance. Additionally, they are issuing rewards for tips and information that lead to the capture of Chihuelan smugglers, or anyone assisting them. The surge in Sentry activity extends to tracking down Kel'ghau merchants with renewed furor. In response, merchants and traders and shopkeepers stage protests, citing abuse of authority and disruptive treatment. These start sporadically. Within a week, however, an organized effort begins to peacefully be as annoying as possible to the Verdant Sentry. Dock workers drag their feet on helping maintenance and secure Sentry ships, or require them to be reparked (sometimes repeatedly) to more suitable locations. Some tricksters go so far as to coat a few decks with fish that attract large numbers of persistent birds - particularly Gyroshei which wreak their own special blend of havoc. Nothing crosses the line into endangerment, though the Sentry obviously does not appreciate the harassment. Many shopkeeps and restaurants also make a point of either taking their time with other customers before serving Sentry, or refusing them service altogether. Note: This event will have a mod-posted log available for threading. • AFFINITY RANKS • Remember to check out your character's AFFINITY RANK for the various areas of repute within the city! This month's Affinity Activities can be found LOCATED HERE. • OOC INFO & MOD NOTES • Year-end Anticipation We will continue to roll out monthly events and metaplot throughout the end of the year. Keeping in mind that holidays and travel often reduce the amount of time people can spend online. Our plan is to provide fun options to engage with that continue to hook into the overarching plot. December will be check-in AC only to allow players freedom to relax during any year-end celebrations. NaNoWriMo We know that a number of players will be participating in NaNoWriMo this year, so no matter what goal you've set yourself, we wish you good luck! |
