a gentle reminder about Rutile

Hi everyone!

Over the last couple months of Rutile running amok in Aifaran, I’ve noticed that there seems to be some confusion about what pronouns they use. It’s not egregious, but I’ve also seen it from enough people that I wanted to make a post to clear things up.

Rutile, like other Land of the Lustrous characters, uses they/them pronouns. They won’t correct anyone IC (they don’t care), but out of respect for nonbinary people I ask that we make a sincere effort to use the pronouns appropriate to their gender, especially in OOC spaces.

I want to emphasize that I don’t think anyone who has made this mistake has malicious intent, and I hold nothing against them. Everyone slips up sometimes, including me! Nonbinary characters are quite rare, and it can be difficult to wrap one’s head around the grammar. With this in mind, I have found a short guide for anyone curious about this aspect of being nonbinary.

I am also happy to answer questions about Rutile’s gender, gender identity in Land of the Lustrous, nonbinary identities, and they/them grammatical convention in the comments in either this post (for a limited amount of time) or in this entry on their journal (screened, anonymous, and a standing offer).

I do my very best to use they/them pronouns with both Rutile and Padpa, but I occasionally slip up, I know, and I apologize sincerely! I will be quite vigilant going forward. <3

Dropping in here to +1 this for Padparadscha - I also use they/them pronouns for Padpa and while I haven't had a lot of people use incorrect pronouns, I'll take this opportunity to make it clear that the points made regarding Rutile also apply to them.
