APRIL 2018

Hello Dreamers!

As we move into our third full month, we'd like to take another opportunity to thank all our player who've stuck with us as we continue to get our feet under us in getting the game up to full speed. It's very appreciated!

 • CITY DEVELOPMENTS •
April marks the first of the archipelago's two annual rainy seasons, and although the temperature around the city and its outlying areas stays consistent, the near-daily drizzle that settles in for the majority of the month makes it seem cooler than it actually is. Some races are better suited for it: the Muin, Castians, Kedan and Erol'a all find the dampness - if not enjoyable - then at least not off-putting. On the other hand, the Kin'nal, Arybar and Bresilykians are all less than thrilled with the turn of weather, even knowing it was coming.

Speaking of the Bresilykians, it's not hard to see that a great many of them seem harried this month, and asking about will divulge that their yearly population change will be happening the following month. A small fleet of ships will be arriving from Evidet, bringing the new year's population to settle in Aifaran, and taking the majority of the current crop of Bresilykians back to their home continent. Although most of them have done this voyage before more than once, there's still quite the current of tension - storms and Shunts have been even more unpredictable of late, and it's a long voyage south.

It becomes a common sight throughout March for Bresilykians to wrap up any outstanding business they have within the city: paying off tabs at frequent shops, selling or giving away possessions deemed too excessive to make the trip back to Evidet, and generally saying their goodbyes.

 • JOB OPENINGS •
Aifaran's economy has strong pillars in both monetary and barter systems for work, and as such there are always a wealth of opportunities for temporary work both inside the city and in other locations around the archipelago. While these positions are not strictly geared toward Dreamfolk, and anyone can take them up regardless of whether they already have steady employment elsewhere or not, new Dreamfolk in particular find them helpful to help get their feet under them. Some of this month's temporary work positions are:

PACKING AND SORTING - As part of the Bresilykians' efforts to ready themselves for their departure next month, many of them are cleaning out their homes in preparation for the new crop who will be arriving. This means that those looking for employment may find offers to help clean, pack, and sort through these households (and a perfect time to score some free stuff, if you're so inclined!). The pay generally isn't stellar, but what you don't make in rhinn, you're sure to make up in potential connections for doing a good job.

SAND, MEET BAG - While the city has adequate systems in place to handle the month-long soaking from the incessant rains, many of the lower areas outside the city habitually keep the worst of the flooding at bay with levees and protective sandbag barriers. Volunteers are shuttled out to the affected areas daily, and Dreamfolk with earth-sculpting skills are in particularly high demand this month, whether through natural abilities of through the use of their Talents, but regular workers needed to fill and haul the heavy bags are critical as well. The work itself is on the harder and more labour-intensive side, but volunteers will usually receive an abundance of home-cooked food while they're on their breaks, and the appreciation of those they're helping.

SPA DAY - The rainy season has stirred up mud and clay highly prized for its regenerative and healing properties and used a great deal throughout spas in Aifaran (to customers who can, of course, afford it). Those with the gumption and little trouble with getting a bit dirty who return with a sizable amount are offered a handsome sum and a free afternoon at the spa where they can get a facial with these rejuvenating clays.

 • UPCOMING EVENTS •

FESTIVAL OF RENEWAL   { Apr 1 - Apr 15 }

It’s the rainy season in Aifaran which is considered a time between the growing seasons. Despite the warm rains that are almost non-stop for the next couple of weeks (and rather frequent up until the end of the month) there’s quite a lot of people out and about despite the storms and flooding. Stalls are selling bright, colourful umbrellas, and rather elaborate, water-resistant garments. The Erol’a are out in particularly high numbers during this time, given their semi-aquatic nature.

While most agriculture is at a standstill until the floods recede, it’s a good time to go fishing - even the crudest rods and nets are bound to catch the abundance of fish.

The Festival of Renewal is only a festival in the broadest sense of the term, but there are a few activities worth trying one's hand at. The Erol’a have hidden little boxes of treasures and money at the bottom of vernal pools and have challenged Aifaran’s most talented swimmers to retrieve the goods. The treasures can range from being quite valuable (jewels, and pricey trinkets and beautiful shells and corals) to not so valuable (candies, buttons, literal lumps of colourful plastics). But hey, the boxes they’re are at least pretty nice!
Note: This event will not have a mod-posted log.

AISLING TOWER OPEN HOUSE   { Apr 20 - Apr 24 }

The researchers at the Aisling Tower, perhaps a little more eagerly than previous iterations of this event given the recent mishap regarding people's memories, are buzzing to show the city's inhabitants their recent progress on deciphering the mysteries of the Dreaming. Those who have never visited the interior of the bone white spire will find periodic tours led by younger members of the order (although attendees are carefully counted and monitored, to prevent any from slipping away) through the public spaces of the Tower and showcasing some of the projects currently underway.

There will also be demonstrators by some of the more experienced researchers, showing various methods of control over the notoriously fickle Plane, and encouraging those who show interest in such pursuits to look into studying at the Tower.

Due to their beliefs, the Ban Om will be staging a protest at the same time, protesting the "unnatural meddling" of the researchers in what they consider the natural order of the world. Although previous counter-demonstrations have been peaceful, the recent spat of memories getting loose has some people a little hot under the collar this time around.
Note: This event will have a mod-posted log available for threading.

 • AFFINITY RANKS •
Remember to check out your character's AFFINITY RANK for the various areas of repute within the city!

This month's Affinity Activities can be found LOCATED HERE.

 • OOC INFO & MOD NOTES •
Regarding the Moqsing TQ-727 Mission
This is a new style of event than what the mods have previously used, and we appreciate everyone's patience while we fine tune the mechanics. For those involved, reminder that here's the questions comment where you can let us know when you're ready for your next encounter (which we may not have been clear about that being the place to note - sorry!)

Additionally...

Upcoming Game Feedback Post
We mentioned this briefly before, but later this month we'll be posting a game feedback post so we can get input on how people think the game has done since launch, and specifically what areas can be improved upon for the mods to address. We are eager to hear from any and all players with their thoughts and suggestions!

Use this post for plotty purposes if you'd like, brainstorm what your character might be interested in doing, laugh over your affinity ranks, anything you want - this post is yours!
perfectenn: (Over there with a look of surprise)

I don't see a questions post but I have questions

From the Talents page, "Talent level increases happen during each month's Activity Check, where players can submit their characters with the required ACP to level up their Talent." Since a few of us are reaching 4 ACP, is this an option when we submit our activity this month, or do we wait until next AC?

Sci-tech, Rank 2
What happens if we look up and try to contact "Zemke"?

Meta, Rank 3
I assume any physical changes can be reversed or will wear off? (Not like I'm planning to do anything weird, but hypothetically speaking if I was, how permanent are we talking about...)
