Agenda | October 2018
✽ OCTOBER 2018 Hello Dreamers! A new month is here, and we're bringing you a dose of seasonal spookiness and autumn cheer. • CITY DEVELOPMENTS • October dawns on a wary city. The Night Fisher has not returned, but the visions of the Dreamsick continue to erupt. Though they haven't caused any physical damage, the streets tend to empty quickly when the dreams appear. Fortunately, the barrier itself stabilizes during the first week of the month. Trepidation begins to edge into caution, but no one is completely at ease. As a tropical archipelago, Aifaran never experiences a true fall or winter, but the races of the Alliance have not forgotten the seasonality of many of their home continents. The propensity for Dreamfolk to be from some version of Earth, or from other worlds with autumnal traditions, has also influenced events that occur this time of year. The terrifying spectre of the Night Fisher is a very real worry, yet as in many things Aifaran is resilient. The stuffed versions of this abomination start to become popular as block parties pop up and gourd-based meals and beverages become a feature of menus across the city - all in anticipation of a week-long holiday fair. Shadow Nights is about to begin! • JOB OPENINGS • Aifaran's economy has strong pillars in both monetary and barter systems for work, and as such there are always a wealth of opportunities for temporary work both inside the city and in other locations around the archipelago. While these positions are not strictly geared toward Dreamfolk, and anyone can take them up regardless of whether they already have steady employment elsewhere or not, new Dreamfolk in particular find them helpful to help get their feet under them. Some of this month's temporary work positions are: PUMPKIN PESTS - A squa MERCH PEDDLER - During the Shadow Nights festival, vendors are going to need some extra help to sell their merchandise. This will mean tabling, in some cases, but it could also mean donning a vending tray and a uniform and wandering the streets selling treats and trinkets. CANDLE PATROL - Throughout October, but especially during the festival, the streets are full of candles and luminaries. They're beautiful, and most people are careful, but the sheer number of open flames begs caution. Nightly patrols are needed to keep an eye on the candles. It is likely to be a bit boring, if pretty to look at. • UPCOMING EVENTS • ✽ GHOULS AND BOYS OF EVERY AGE { Throughout October } The Festival of Shadow Nights is upon us as October hits and Aifaran is abuzz with activity. The ripples in the barrier and subsequent vision of the Night Fisher has put an extra chill in the usually balmy air. The Festival of Shadow Nights technically only occurs throughout the last week of the month (culminating in the Night Parade of a Hundred Ghosts), but preparations, and other festive traditions have sprung up over the years and have sort of fused into a collective practice. What one can expect for the Festival of Shadow nights?
Note: This event will have a mod-posted log available for threading. ✽ MASQUERADE! PAPER FACES ON PARADE { Oct 20* } On the 20th of every October, the Aisling Tower hosts an elaborate masquerade to celebrate the Shadow Nights. It's open to all, and the staff are happy to provide suitable attire to rent for the evening to those who cannot afford fancy clothes as a staple of their wardrobe. All for the low price of the dry-cleaning bill for the outfit. It's a lavish and popular event, attended by all walks of life in Aifaran. Indoors there are numerous parlour games, dancing, candlelight, and tasty morsels speared with toothpicks for your dining pleasure. The courtyard is host to more… rowdy variants of the indoor activities. And there is, of course, an abundance of candy; a tradition of some Dreamfolk that Aifaran was all too eager to embrace. And no, you can't go swimming in the chocolate fountain. Note: This event will have a mod-posted log available for threading going up on *October 16th. • AFFINITY RANKS • Remember to check out your character's AFFINITY RANK for the various areas of repute within the city! This month's Affinity Activities can be found LOCATED HERE. • OOC INFO & MOD NOTES • Mission Wrap-up Thank you to everyone who participated in the mission last month, and for your patience as RL challenges arose. We hope the tweaks helped to improve the process and will be asking for another round of feedback soon. Year-end Anticipation We will continue to roll out monthly events and metaplot throughout the end of the year. Keeping in mind that holidays and travel often reduce the amount of time people can spend online. Our plan is to provide fun options to engage with that continue to hook into the overarching plot. |
